Avoid these Auto Transport mistakes

Do not rely on any verbal promises from your auto transport company. What ever is promised, make sure it is written on paper for reference. After you sign your contract, your transport company will always refer you to the contract for any complaints you may have, including cost to cancel your shipment.
Verify company’s license. You've got to find out if the company you are going to deal with is licensed or not. Ask them a question: "Are you licensed?" Let them quote the license number for you and then you double check.
Ask for references and call them. Ask the company to give you names or contacts of their clients. A company with a great record is always proud to refer you to satisfied customers. If they are hesitant, that's a signal that they might be hiding their poor service.
Ask their insurance certificate because every vehicle transport company must have one. It's your right to know anyhow before you commit your vehicle into the auto transport company.
Call your insurance company or agent for a brief such that you know all the details of what is really covered during transit. Double check to make sure that you have the necessary policy in place. If anything happens to your car which is not covered by the car shipping company, then you will be in trouble.
Remove any personal items from your car. It will not be covered by insurance. In case of anything, be it vandalism, theft or damage of such items, you lose out.
Check your vehicle status before pickup. Normally auto transport company will inspect your vehicle before loading. Make sure you are there to ensure that the correct status of your vehicle is recorded. Take pictures if you can because this would prove even more authoritative.
Never accept your vehicle at night or at a location that does not permit you easy access to inspect all parts of your car. Without being viewed and signed by the driver, you have little recourse if damage had occurred during transit.
In case of any damage, make sure it is recorded on the condition report (bill of lading) and get the driver to sign it. Once this is done, then you can contact the car transport company for reimbursement or compensation.

You need a good trucker

Sometimes you might have drivers that can promise you fast pick ups or delivery or they give you verry cheap rates however you have to bear in mind that quality matters alot since if there is an accident with the truck or your driver will decide not to deliver or quit on his boss you may be stuck IT PAYS to pay alittle more and be more comfortable with your shippment a cheap driver might give you a cheap rate but the results will be expensive

Tips on purchasing a vehicle

One thing I preach in my study course is that in order to buy cars for maximum profit, you need consistent effort & patient money. Many beginners are so anxious to "do a deal", they buy anything and ultimately PAY TOO MUCH. Its better to let a good deal pass than be upside down on a stupid purchase. They put their money into play too soon and put themselves at risk. Don't let this happen to you.So, put in a consistent effort and be patient. Deals are everywhere! Cars are parked in front of Walmart, Albertsons, and there are cars at public auctions, listed in the paper, on ebay, the auto trader, ... the list goes on and on and on.The next most important thing to do when you are new is to be careful about what you pay for the car! This is the moment that decides if you make a profit or not. This where buying right can virtually guarantee your success. If you follow the valuation exercises in my study course, determining value should be a fairly easy thing. If you buy the car with enough profit built in, you will have ensured, at the time you bought the car, that your investment will make you money. The money is locked in on the BUY and you collect it on the SALE. When you determine value, it is a critical moment that can have a profound effect on your financial well being. So, be consistent in looking for deals but patient enough to pull the trigger on the vehicles that truly are the best deals.

BOAT TRANSPORTATION GUIDE

This boat preparation guide was compiled to assist the boat owner in properly preparing and securing the boat for overland transportation. Please make every effort to prepare the boat according to these guidelines. Oversee the preparation yourself or have a qualified yard do so. The carrier cannot be responsible for damage due to improper preparation or loading by the shipper, for faulty or defective cradles, trailers, chains, binders, or other equipment provided by the shipper to secure the cargo.NOTE: IF BOAT IS NOT PROPERLY PREPARED FOR SHIPMENT, BOAT WILL BE SHIPPED "AS IS" AND CARRIER WILL NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY RESULTING DAMAGE.GENERAL INFORMATIONThe legal height for transporting over the road is 13' 6." Please choose a marina or boatyard with at least 14' overhead clearance, with no low tree branches or wires on its approach. If you choose a marina or boatyard to which there is no clear access, the carrier cannot accept responsibility for damage caused by branches or wires. The larger the boat, the higher the load, the more clearance required. Unless previously discussed, freight amount quoted is for legal height of 13' 6" loaded on the carriers trailer. If your boat loads higher, a freight surcharge will be added to your freight amount. The driver will perform a survey only of the exterior of the boat. The condition of the boat will be noted on a condition report. You or your agent will be asked to sign this report at the point of pickup; a copy of this report will be given to you or your agent at that time. At delivery, the boat will again be inspected; the condition report again signed and another copy will be given to you or your agent. Any damage noted by you or your agent upon delivery must be noted on the bill-of-lading that you sign when you or your agent accepts delivery of the boat.BASICS1. Stow all loose gear and secure. All gear stored below must be well secured. The carrier will not accept responsibility for damage caused by loose gear. Lock the cabin. YOU keep the key. DO NOT give the key to the driver. Boat gear only: we cannot ship household goods.2. Boats cannot be shipped with fuel or water in tanks. Drain fuel and water tanks. Remove any drain plugs from the hull. There should not be any water in the bilge while it is being transported. During winter months, water should be drained from water systems, pumps, air conditioners, etc.3. Disconnect batteries and secure. Remove anchors from the deck.4. Wooden boats can be expected to dry out. A coat of linseed oil will help. Please expect normal road dirt on the boat.CANVAS COVERS/SHRINK WRAP5. All canvas covers must be removed as they will tear or fly off during transit. If they are not removed, the carrier cannot be responsible for damages. The carrier will ship shrink-wrapped boats, however the shrink wrap may tear or fly off in transit. The carriers do carry extra shrink wrap tape and every effort will be made to repair the shrink wrap, however, if the shrink wrap becomes unrepairable, it will be removed to avoid damage from the shrink wrap beating against the boat. The carrier will not be held responsibleCRADLES/TRAILERS6. If your boat has its own cradle, please inspect it carefully for loose bolts or weakness of any kind. If your cradle breaks in transit, causing damage to your boat, the carrier cannot accept responsibility. If you are shipping your boat on its own trailer, the carrier cannot accept responsibility should the rollers or frame cause damage, or if the trailer breaks apart, causing damage.DINGHIES7. If you are shipping a dinghy on board or if you have had to remove any superstructure, these items should be well padded. DO NOT leave dinghy on davits.EXTERNAL ACCESSORIES8. All electronics, radar, hailers, horns, antennas, propellers, flag masts, lights, anchor lights, etc., must be removed, packed securely and securely stored below. The carrier will not be responsible if they are damaged or if they vibrate off.HATCHES9. Tie and/or tape hatches from the outside. The carrier cannot be responsible for the damage they may cause if they blow off in transit, or for damage to the boat caused by rain water if a hatch blows off.10. If the hatches leak, seal them. A boat will not sit in the same position on the carrier's trailer as it does in the water and the carrier cannot be responsible for rain water entering through a leaky hatch or deck.WINDOWS/WINDSHIELDS11. Cabin windows should be latched and taped from the outside.12. All windshields and/or Plexiglas that protrude over the flying bridgeshould be removed, packed with a cargo blanket and should be well secured below. The carrier will not be responsible for any damage that occurs if they are not removed and properly packed and secured.ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SAILBOATS13. All rigging, winches, wind indicators, and lights must be removed from themast. Carpet should be provided for the mast at the points of tie down. Expect somechafing at these points. If the mast is painted, it is almost impossible to keep the paint from chafing. The carrier will not pay to repaint masts if chafing occurs. Do not secure the mast to the boat, as there is a space on the carriers trailer for the mast. Should then mast be secured to the boat, the carrier will not be responsible for any resulting damage to the mast or the boat?Life lines, stanchions, bow and stern pulpits should be removed if they render the boat over height, generally over 11' keel to highest point not on the carriers trailer.14. On center board sailboats, make sure the board is secured and will stay up in transit. Keel sailboats may expect some separation where the keel joins the hull. This is not structural damage, but rather is the paint or filler cracking at the joint. Light built or racing sailboats can expect some hull indentation from the support pads. These indentations generally disappear when the boat is returned to the water.ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR POWER BOATS15. Remove all propellers, flag masts, lights, outriggers, antennas, etc.16. If your power boat is low enough to ship with the flying bridge on, remove all lights, wheels, masts and windshields that protrude over the bridge. All Plexiglas should be removed and packed below with a cargo blanket. If your power boat is not low enough to ship with the flying bridge on, you will have to have a cradle built for the bridge to be shipped in on the forward deck or cockpit area. Every point touching the deck or rails must be sufficiently padded. Remove all electronics and valuable items from the bridge, pack securely, and store below. If you have any questions, Please give us a call.

Kingsway Auto Transport

Andrew of Fairfield CT writes (1/15/03): I took my car to this auto transportation company to have the car shipped down to Florida, where I currently am. Not only has approximately three weeks passed since I was told the car would get here, but when I call Betty, who claims she is the owner of Kingsway, she hangs up on me or is very rude to me and nasty to me and refuses to disclose the location of the car.
I don't know where the car is, and she refuses to tell me. And I prepaid $485. for their service. So basically she has my money and refuses to tell me what happened to my car. I fear that they will never deliver my car. I fear the worst and have numerous important things in the trunk of the car.

Southerland Auto Transport taken from consumeraffairs.com

Lorraine of Chester VA (5/19/03): My daughter was given a quote on line to transport her husband's vehicle from Richmond Virginia to Boise Idaho. As they are newlyweds, young and serving in the Air Force their money was tight. She paid the initial deposit via Western Union of $499.00 and was told that upon receipt of this deposit the vehicle would be picked up within 2 weeks.
When this did not happen I contacted the company and was told that they would put it on a "priority list" however when calling back a week later I was told that it was never put on any priority list. I was then told there still was no pick up date assigned to the vehicle. I enquired if there was any other way we could expedite the order and was told in turn that if they paid an additional $200.00 then it would be picked up within 3 to 5 days. We agreed to this, I faxed through an agreement to upgrade the order and again waited.
The 3 to 5 days expired and I telephoned the company again. I was put onto Bill who was aggressive, abusive, made racial comments towards me, made personal comments towards me and continued to tell me that if they "had a crystal ball then he could tell me when the vehicle could be picked up". I enquired if we cancelled the order if the kids could get their deposit back as they need the vehicle and he told me he would love to cancel the order and keep their deposit. He told me he could run his business any way he wanted to and continued to be abusive and rude. Finally he told me he was cancelling their order and hung up on me.
The result of this company's unscrupulous business manner is that two innocent people, one who is serving his country, are now out of pocket $499, don't have their vehicle after a month. The stress on both my daughter and sone-in-law and myself has been enormous. The time it has taken out of my day on numerous occasions to contact this company is precious to me considering I am running a very reputable company who would never deal with my customers the way this company has, does and continues to.
Bob of Rochester MN writes (7/13/01): I was given a quote of $795 for the transport of my Porsche 911 from Lemoore, CA to Rochester, MN. This quote was for an economy shipment which was described as follows: "economy shipments will be picked up with the next available carrier".
The contract stated the company would contact me prior to any charges being made and to confirm the approval of the contract. This was sent in on July 2nd. The company never contacted me. I contacted the company on July 7th because I had not heard anything. At that time I was told that they were working on it and no date was available as to when it would be shipped.
He also told me that I could add another $200 to expedite the shipment. I refused to do so and he told me that they would keep working on finding someone to ship it. After another week of not hearing anything I contacted the company on 7-13 and again was told they are working on it but no date is available. I was again told that if I gave them another $200 that they would expedite the order. When I refused to do so and stated that I didn't think I was getting the service as it was described, Bill told me he didn't have time to play word games and that he was going to hang up. I told him not to hang up and that I didn't want him shipping my vehicle and he said send me a cancellation and hung up.
I now believe the initial quote is lower than the accepted rate in the industry for this shipment. Southerland is just a broker and has to find a shipper willing to ship the vehicle for the price they quoted. Therefore, because the rate is lower than what is normal to the industry no shipper will accept this rate. At this point it is a losing situation for the consumer because you can either pay the additional $200 and hope someone will take the job at that price or say forget it and lose your deposit.

How does goverment car auctions work

Government seized-property or surplus auctions are held all over the country at various locations and on various schedules. Typically an auction is held at a particular location on a regular basis — usually monthly or quarterly or annually. Local and national newspapers often have listings and details. Usually these are more than just car auctions. All kinds of property are included.
Obviously, these government agencies and lending institutions are hoping to get as much money as possible for their goods. But bargains can be had. Otherwise, the auctions wouldn't be as popular as they are and no one would participate.
